It may come as a surprise to many that the best pizza in the world is not being prepared in Italy, but rather in Vienna’s eighth district, Josefstadt. Just recently, the owner of “Via Toledo” was crowned World Pizza Champion. The restaurant is spacious – casual and yet bustling in typical Italian style. We are sure that you will want to while away a few hours in the modern and stylish atmosphere.

What makes the pizza in “Momo” unique in Vienna? The large selection of toppings from Italy as well as the creative approach to what can be used as a topping on a pizza. Have you ever tried a bianco pizza with avocados? The restaurant is situated only a few minutes away from Spittelberg, Burggasse and Mariahilfer Straße. The atmosphere here is romantic-Italian and the restaurant is lovingly furnished, but very small. There are not many tables in Momo, and therefore we recommend that you reserve a table in advance to avoid disappointment. Here, the focus is on quality rather than quantity.

Whether rosso or bianco, a wonderful Neapolitan pizza is served in “Pizza Quartier”. The location is excellent, as the restaurant is situated at the hip and popular Karmelitermarkt. The partly open kitchen and the large wood-fired oven create a truly special atmosphere, and the interior is cosy and wood dominates the decor.

You can’t eat pizza more hip and casual in Vienna. The pizzeria, “Disco Volante” stands out as it only uses the best ingredients, serving a wonderful selection of Italian delicacies. It is centrally located near the Naschmarkt and Mariahilfer Straße. The ambience also leaves nothing to be desired – simple but well designed. The highlight: the pizza oven is an oversized disco ball!

Another pizzeria in Vienna’s eighth district (Josefstadt) has also made it into our ranking: the classic, “Il Sestante” in Piaristengasse. The selection of pizzas here is tried and tested, as we know and like them. The location at Piaristenplatz, one of the most beautiful and above all most Italian squares in the city, is unique in Vienna, and the atmosphere in the summery guest garden can hardly be topped. But the interior of Il Sestante itself is a haven for those seeking not only an excellent pizza but also original Italian cosiness and tranquillity.

The pizzeria “La Mia” stands out not only because of the more than solid pizzas and the wide range of pizzas that it serves. Above all, it is impressive due to the wonderful ambience. The interior is cosy and cheerful. A few paintings on the wall, a great chandelier, a little wood and comfortable seating. During the warmer months, you can enjoy your pizza outside in the passageway – between Josefstadt and Neubau, a very special and unique guest garden so to speak. The restaurant is centrally located in the seventh district.
