November highlights in Vienna

November in Vienna promises to be exciting!

When it is getting colder and colder and winter jackets have to be worn, this can only mean that November is soon upon us. But that is no reason for the Viennese to stay at home because Vienna tempts locals and visitors alike with a variety of events in November. From a designer market to a book fair, the Comic Con or the opening of the Christmas markets – November offers a mixed bunch of free-time activities in Vienna.

Vienna Art Week

From 13th to 19th November the focus in the city is on art. At the VIENNA ART WEEK 2017 you will be given an insight into Vienna’s world of art. This year’s motto is “Transforming Technology” and 200 top-class events which examine the relationship between art and technology will be held. During the Festival week, visitors can attend a variety of events, from exhibitions to lectures, discussions and much more. The events take place at a number of venues spread throughout the city. From fashion, jewellery, accessories, art, food and drink to children’s designer clothes, there is something for every taste. A true tip for all those who would like to buy some early Christmas presents – you are sure to find a unique piece at this market. Thanks to the extensive range of both goods and culinary treats, it is easy to spend a good few hours in the Brewery. But please note: unfortunately it is for the most part not possible to pay by electronic means and so we recommend that you take enough cash with you.

Winter in the MuseumsQuartier (Museum Quarter, MQ)

Although, or perhaps precisely because, this is a classical advent market, the “Winter in the Museum Quarter” is particularly popular. Here students, the young at heart and music fans meet in order to enjoy the most extravagant punch creations, accompanied by DJs and light shows. As usual, this year the “Winter in the Museum Quarter” opens already at the beginning of November. On 9th November the opening ceremony will take place at the Museumsplatz (Museum Square) at 5pm. It is definitely worth a visit!

Not only will attention be drawn to the very colourful and at times very elaborate costumes of the visitors but also to the star guests who have already been announced – for example, visitors will have the chance to meet&greet Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange, The Martian), Temuera Morrison (Star Wars, Green Lantern) or also Jason Isaac (Harry Potter, Star Trek).

The pre-Christmas time already begins in Vienna in November

Year in, year out, Vienna is very popular in the Christmas season, one of the reasons being the many Viennese Christmas markets which are spread all over the city. If you visit Vienna at the beginning of November, you will be spoilt for choice – you can visit the famous Christmas market in front of the Rathaus (Town Hall), the romantic one at Schloss Schönbrunn (Schönbrunn Palace), the artistic market at Karlsplatz or the trendy, modern market at Spittelberg in the city’s seventh district.

And to make sure that both locals and visitors to the city have as long a time as possible to visit their beloved Christmas markets, most already open on 18th November. This gives you the possibility  to buy some early Christmas presents and traditional gifts or to heat yourself up with some tasty punch and Glühwein. A must for everyone who visits the city in the pre-Christmas season.
